BAD NEWS FOR DOGS AS SCOTLAND FAIL TO ACT OVER SHOCK COLLARS The Kennel Club has expressed its disappointment and frustration following the announcement from the Scottish Government not to move forward with a ban on electric shock collars until Defra has completed further research on the impact of using the devices on dogs.
The research is costing the Government a total of £469,000 at a time when Defra resources for companion animals are scarce.

BATTERSEA DOGS & CATS HOME LAUNCHES APPEAL TO KEEP ANIMALS WARM THIS WINTER As the winter nights draw in, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is launching a fundraising appeal to keep the animals warm, by asking for donations towards new, environmentally friendly blankets. The Home regularly receives donations of blankets, however this year, in a bid to become more environmentally friendly and to enhance welfare of the dogs and cats, Battersea is starting to replace traditional blankets with Vetbeds.

57% OF PETS FACE FIREWORK FEAR ON NEW YEAR’S EVE The RSPCA is urging people to attend public new year firework displays rather than holding their own as a revealing new poll shows 57 per cent of pets are scared of fireworks.
Organised displays are usually well publicised, which means pet owners can prepare in advance and reduce the amount of distress caused to animals.
