RAYMOND BROOKS-WARD MEMORIAL TROPHY WINNER ANNOUNCED November 2008 - Sophie Christiansen is first ever Para-Equestrian Dressage rider to win accolade
This year’s recipient of the Raymond Brooks-Ward Memorial Trophy will go for the first time to a Para-Equestrian Dressage rider, Sophie Christiansen.
The Trophy, which gets awarded to the most promising rider under 25 years old competing in any of the eventing, dressage (including Para-Equestrian) and show jumping disciplines, will be presented to Sophie during the evening performance of Olympia, The London International Horse Show on Saturday 20th December. SCRUFFTS FAMILY CROSSBREED DOG OF THE YEAR SHINES AT DISCOVER DOGS November 2008 - It was raining dogs all weekend at Earls Court, but a cute canine called Jaffa shone above the competition to become the Scruffts Family Crossbreed Dog of the Year.
The final of Scruffts, the nation’s favourite crossbreed competition, took place on Sunday 9th November at London’s leading dog event, Discover Dogs, and was judged by celebrity judge Summer Strallen, famous for her roles in Hollyoaks and the West End hit, The Sound of the Music. Jaffa, aged 11 months, managed to out-shine the competition with his owner Lindsey Truss from Hainault, Essex, to win the overall prize.

INDI IS CROWNED BEST DOG IN THE COMPANION DOG CLUB COMPETITION AT DISCOVER DOGS November 2008 - Indi, aged 11 ½ from Walsall, West Midlands, has been named overall Best Dog in the grand final of the Companion Dog Club competition at London’s leading dog event, Discover Dogs.
Renowned canine behaviourist, trainer and author, Carolyn Menteith, who judged the competition congratulated owner Michelle Wood and Indi at Earls Court 2 on Sunday 9th November on their achievement.
Indi was crowned overall Best Dog after winning the Best OAP category of the competition where age and charisma both come first.
Michelle said, “It’s just amazing.”

SAFETY HEROES RECOGNISED AT THE BRITISH HORSE SOCIETY SEFTON AWARDS 2008 November 2008 - Heroes in the field of equestrian safety were honoured at The British Horse Society’s Sefton Awards, held at the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment's Barracks, Knightsbridge, London.
The awards mark outstanding contribution in the field of riding and road safety. They can go to anyone who, through their achievements, has raised awareness of the need for riding and road safety.
This year there were two recipients of the prestigious award, Alison Brown from Sinnington in Yorkshire and Rose Horrex from Gwent, South East Wales.

BOARDWALK HERALDS £½ MILLION BIFFAWARD BIODIVERSITY FUNDING FOR THAMES LANDSCAPE STRATEGY PROJECT March 2008 - The Thames Landscape Strategy is raising funds for the London’s Arcadia project which is restoring and enhancing the view from Richmond Hill - the only view in the UK protected by an Act of Parliament. The project aims to bring together the public open spaces along the river that form the ‘View’, regenerating and managing all aspects of the river environment for both people and wildlife.

THE QUEEN MAKES CHRISTMAS DONATION TO THE BHS AND AHT'S STRANGLES APPEAL December 2007 - Her Majesty The Queen has dug into her own pocket to make a donation to The British Horse Society and The Animal Health Trust's Strangles Appeal.
Her Majesty sent a cheque to the BHS, of which she has been Patron for 60 years, to help the charities fight the terrible disease that attacks horses.

BLUE PETER VET SET TO EXAMINE WINNING PICS AT PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS CEREMONY December 2007 - Blue Peter vet Tricia Mundy will host the prestigious RSPCA Young Photographer Awards ceremony at the Natural History Museum, London on
Friday 14 December, from 12.30pm.
Now in its 17th year, the competition, sponsored by Olympus and Warners Midland, attracts thousands of entries annually from photographers under the age of 18.
