BAD NEWS FOR DOGS AS SCOTLAND FAIL TO ACT OVER SHOCK COLLARS November 2008 - The Kennel Club has expressed its disappointment and frustration following the announcement from the Scottish Government not to move forward with a ban on electric shock collars until Defra has completed further research on the impact of using the devices on dogs.
The research is costing the Government a total of £469,000 at a time when Defra resources for companion animals are scarce.

TAIL-DOCKING OF ALL DOGS NOW ILLEGAL IN SCOTLAND May 2007 - Advocates for Animals is delighted that the docking of all dogs’ tails is now illegal in Scotland, with the ban on this mutilation coming into force today.
Advocates has long campaigned for an end to tail-docking on the grounds that it is an unnecessary mutilation that causes pain and distress. This view is shared by all of the major veterinary organisations.

SANDWELL MET BOROUGH COUNCIL LOOKS TO BAN DOGS LOCAL WEST MIDLANDS DOG OWNERS ALERTED April 2007 - KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s scheme in place to help all dog owners protect their rights and freedoms, was recently alerted by KC Dog members of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council’s intention to bring in dog control orders.
The implications of dog control orders for local West Midlands dog owners include being made to keep their dogs on leads in ALL places and banning dogs from many areas, as well as restricting the number of dogs that a person may walk at any one time. Read full story. |

NORTH NORFOLK DOG CONTROL ORDERS LOCAL DOG OWNERS ALERTED April 2007 - KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s scheme in place to help all dog owners protect their rights and freedoms, was recently alerted by KC Dog members of North Norfolk District Council’s intention to bring in dog control orders.
Local authorities have had increased powers over dog owners all over the UK since the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act came into force in April 2006.

WROTHAM PARISH COUNCIL LOOKS AT DOG CONTROL ORDERS LOCAL KENT DOG OWNERS ALERTED April 2007 - KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s scheme in place to help all dog owners protect their rights and freedoms, was recently alerted by KC Dog members of Wrotham Parish Council’s intention to bring in a dog control order to ban dogs from the local cricket ground.
Wrotham Parish Council is currently running an obligatory consultation period giving the public the opportunity to voice their opinions before the order is put in place.
