WAVE GOODBYE TO FIREWORK FEARS WITH SOUND THERAPY FOR DOGS November 2008 - One of Britain’s leading supermarkets is helping the RSPCA combat the misery suffered each year by the millions of animals left terrified by fireworks.
The Co-operative will help distribute a new leaflet produced by the RSPCA which gives practical advice on how owners can use sound therapy to overcome their dogs’ long-term fear of loud noises that have traditionally caused so much distress to animals during the Guy Fawkes celebrations.

HAVE FUN ON BONFIRE NIGHT, BUT DON’T FORGET ABOUT ROVER! November 2008 - Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is urging dog and cat owners to take extra care of their canine and feline friends when celebrating Bonfire night, as last year during the two week fireworks season, the Home took in 29% more stray dogs than average for the year.
Many of these dogs came into the Home after getting spooked by fireworks and bolting from their owners. Dogs and cats have an acute sense of smell and very good hearing and many pets have an adverse reaction to the unusual and sudden sights, smells and sounds associated with fireworks.

BONFIRES BUILT IN ADVANCE ARE ‘HEDGEHOG HOTELS’ November 2008 - Every year an unknown number of hedgehogs die of suffer horrific injuries because bonfire piles are not checked before being lit. To save hedgehogs and other wildlife from appalling suffering the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) urges that bonfires should not be built until the day they are to be lit. This will not only save wildlife from burning to death but will also stop the bonfire from getting soaked should it rain the night before!

STRESS COULD BE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FOR CATS ON 5TH NOVEMBER, ACCORDING TO SURVEY November 2008 - A survey of veterinary practices by Cats Protection indicates that behavioural problems seen in cats, as a result of stress caused by fireworks, may be a bigger threat to their welfare on Fireworks Night than physical injuries.
The Effects of fireworks on cats survey, which involved 800 practices, reveals that the top three problems seen in cats that are affected by fireworks are all behaviour related.
The most common cases seen were cats spraying or soiling indoors (67 per cent of respondents), withdrawal or apathy (63 per cent of respondents) and scratching or clawing at furnishings (56 per cent of respondents). Read full story. |

REMEMBER, REMEMBER YOUR PETS THIS NOVEMBER! September 2008 - Bonfire Night may go with a bang for you and your family, but it is estimated that approximately 60 per cent of pets become stressed and fearful during the firework season. To make matters worse, not only are many owners unaware how to help their pets with firework fears, veterinary professionals believe 71 per cent of owners are unable to spot the signs that their pets are unhappy.

“CAN YOU COME AND GET A FLY OFF A WEB?” December 2007 - Flying pigs, moorhens ‘acting strangely’ and depressed fish. It has been another busy year for the RSPCA’s national control centre (NCC) which answers more than a million calls every year one every thirty seconds from the public.
Whilst the majority involve reports of cruelty or requests for help and advice, some of the calls have raised a few eyebrows and chuckles along the way. Here are just a few of the more unusual requests.

57% OF PETS FACE FIREWORK FEAR ON NEW YEAR’S EVE December 2007 - The RSPCA is urging people to attend public new year firework displays rather than holding their own as a revealing new poll shows 57 per cent of pets are scared of fireworks.
Organised displays are usually well publicised, which means pet owners can prepare in advance and reduce the amount of distress caused to animals.

DON'T LET AN ANIMAL SNEAK INTO YOUR WARDROBE RETAILERS URGED TO WAKE UP TO REAL FUR AND END CONSUMER CONFUSION (London) December 2007 - A new anti fur campaign called 100% Fake is being launched after an RSPCA investigation found two High Street chains selling unlabelled or mislabelled fur.

COUNCILS ACROSS THE UK ARE INTRODUCING DOG CONTROL ORDERS KC DOG HELPS RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS (London) November 2007 - KC Dog, the Kennel Club scheme which helps responsible dog owners protect their rights, is alerting all dog owners in the UK to councils who are currently consulting on dog control orders.
Dog control orders make it an offence to, amongst other things, not have a dog on a lead, to walk more than a certain number of dogs at one time, and can even ban dogs altogether from certain areas, including beaches and parks. Read full story. |

FIREWORKS AND PETS (Rochester, Kent) November 2007 - I have used Dap, I have used the cd of fireworks, I have fed my dog pasta but all to no avail....
she is terrified, can there be a law that Fireworks can only be set off on Nov.5th from 6 til 9pm?
also why have the really loud ones?
Give our Animals a break please, I am not trying to spoil Nov 5th but it isn't just Nov 5th.
There is Halloween, the weekend before Nov 5th, the weekend after then New year.
Help someone!
Can anyone else help me support this?
